It’s Just A Country Thang

In the second episode of Sad Senpai and the Gaijin Kid, Stephen and Zachary check out the first episode of Non Non Biyori. It’s Stephen’s first time watching slice-of-life and he’s enamored by the utter lack of plot.

It’s not just the lack of plot that has Stephen interested, but how calm and relaxing it is. There’s no other genre that spends five minutes on the characters walking up a hill after all. That’s exciting! Or at least it’s exciting for these two viewers. It may not be that exciting for the anime fan that’s more interested in Shingeki no Kyojin.

Non Non Biyori has been licensed by Sentai Filmworks, but doesn’t have a domestic release date just yet. You can, however, watch it over at Crunchyroll and Hulu.

Henshin A Precure, Baby!

In this inaugural episode of Sad Senpai and the Gaijin Kid, Zachary and Stephen watch episode 29 of Smile Precure.

In this episode of Toei’s long running magical girl series, the girls are transported to a magical world of games where the only means of escape is to win. The odds are stacked against them and the villains aren’t playing fair. How will it turn out?

As expected, it turns out okay, but you should be more concerned over Stephen’s first real exposure to the magical girl genre. Will it drive him insane or kindle a new love within his heart? You’ll just have to listen/watch to find out.

Note: While Smile Precure is not licensed for distribution in the U.S., the distribution of fansubs is a murky legal gray area. While we can’t provide a direct link to the fansubs, we can say you can find the episode in question with a quick Google search.
