As you already know, there was no new episode this past weekend. I had an anime convention to attend and Stephen used that as an excuse to not watch anime all week. It was a win-win for both of us.
With that being said, we’ll be back this weekend with an exciting twist – we’re gonna be watching the new series that are starting to air during the fall season. There’s a lot of good stuff coming out this season and Zachary wants it to be judged by the only man ignorant enough to give it all a fair shake. The two may also be joined by some special guests during these episodes as they explore what Japan’s cooking up in the anime world.
Until then, enjoy a bit of my new found obsession:
In this inaugural episode of Sad Senpai and the Gaijin Kid, Zachary and Stephen watch episode 29 of Smile Precure.
In this episode of Toei’s long running magical girl series, the girls are transported to a magical world of games where the only means of escape is to win. The odds are stacked against them and the villains aren’t playing fair. How will it turn out?
As expected, it turns out okay, but you should be more concerned over Stephen’s first real exposure to the magical girl genre. Will it drive him insane or kindle a new love within his heart? You’ll just have to listen/watch to find out.
Note: While Smile Precure is not licensed for distribution in the U.S., the distribution of fansubs is a murky legal gray area. While we can’t provide a direct link to the fansubs, we can say you can find the episode in question with a quick Google search.
If you enjoyed hearing Zachary and Stephen talk about anime for 22 minutes, you also might like hearing them talk with two other excellent dudes about video games for an hour each week over at Disembodied Voices.
